A 2016study by RAND corporation calculated the impact of insufficient sleep in the economy of developed countries. It costs between 1.35% to 2.92% of the GDP. According to a British medical journal, when you go between 17 to 19 hours without sleep, your reasoning capacity is similar to someone who has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05. 24 hours without sleep and this number increases to 0.10. To give you an idea of what it means: driving under the influence starts after a BAC of 0.8 and commercial drivers can’t go past 0.4. That means you could be more impaired than someone legally drunk.
